Our Finest Wing-shaped Psaltery
Made by James Mayo from a Maple Burl cut
in 1961, this psaltery is utterly unique and is among the most
beautiful and sweet-sounding instruments ever produced by this shop.
fancy bridges are made of Western Red Cedar with Purple Heart saddles . . .
The back
is from a contiguous piece of the same burl. The crack appearing in the
upper left of the picture is a natural part of the burl and has been
stabilized. It will not affect the tone or longevity in any way--just
part of the charm! Priced to move at $350
A more typical offering, also constructed by Mr. Mayo, is made with a
Western Red Cedar top and back, maple sides and pinblocks, all stained
to a reddish amber. $175

A closer look at our more basic $75 Small Psaltery.

This Custom Small Psaltery is fashioned from solid Oregon woods--Walnut, dark and
richly figured, forms the back, sides and pinblocks while Alder
heartwood is used in the top. Decorative soundhole and layered,
sculpted bridge highlight the design. The tone is loud and clear, as
only this combination of woods can deliver. $120
The
elegant Hognose is without a doubt our most popular historical
reproduction. The three offered here were all made by Mr. Mayo in our
shop using our exclusive Oregon woods, selected for their beauty and
figure. This one can be customized with a soundhole rosette of your
choice. $175
